Volunteers Make the Difference

Feather River Hospital volunteers have something very special to offer - themselves.

By donating their time and energy, hospital volunteers provide extra services that supplement the basic functions of the hospital's professional staff - services which add to the comfort, care and happiness of each patient.

Our volunteers bring a wealth of experience to their work experience, which benefits patients, hospital staff and the community as a whole.

Why Volunteer?

  • FRH volunteers not only give - they receive. In volunteering, they have a chance to:
  • Learn new skills
  • Develop new interests
  • Make new friends
  • Enjoy the satisfaction that comes from helping others

How Do Volunteers Help?

No matter where their efforts are given, Feather River Hospital volunteers provide valuable service to their own community.

Enhancing Patient Care
This might include assisting patients in admitting or discharging, reading or writing letters for patients or simply visiting with lonely patients.

Fundraising

Volunteers can work in the Gift Shop or Pink Cottage to help raise funds for the hospital's auxiliary, and get involved in special events in the community.

Organizational Support

Some volunteers choose to help out various hospital department offices and clinical departments.

Community Services
Telecare or Lifeline(tm) Programs provide security for local residents who live alone. These essential programs are staffed and administered by volunteers. Some folks also help with community events such as flu clinics and health fairs.

Who Can Volunteer?

Volunteering offers something for retired folks as well as younger Ridge residents. We ask for a weekly commitment of four hours of time from each volunteer, but arrangements can be easily made to accommodate traveling, vacations or time off.

No matter what their ages, our best volunteers have the following traits:
  • Interest and enthusiasm
  • A positive, cheerful attitude
  • Dependability
  • A willingness to learn new skills and polish up old ones
